**This position is a temporary 8-month co-op assignment from January 2024-August 2024 OR May 2024-December 2024. Only students currently attending college or university will be considered. **

This position requires high attention to both detail and safety. Applicants must be comfortable working with high pressure, power tools, chemicals, sample prep equipment, and a wide range of analytical instruments. On the job training will be provided but having prior experience is much preferred!

AS A TEST & EVALUATION ENGINEER CO-OP, YOU WILL …

  • Develop expertise in control valve, instrument, and materials test methods and participate in continuous improvement of test technology.
  • Work with Simulation, Design, and Product Engineering groups as part of a multi-functional team to determine testing requirements.
  • Conduct lab evaluations for the Materials Engineering team.
  • Develop and execute test plans in cooperation with internal design teams and external customers.
  • Assemble test units, install measurement instrumentation, and set up data acquisition systems.
  • Evaluate experimental data and prepare engineering reports that include analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Update company-wide standards and web pages.
  • Use LabVIEW, FlexLogger, DIAdem, DeltaV, VBA, and/or MS Visual Studio software for the implementation of automated systems that could consist of process or report automation, physical hardware setup, or data analysis.
  • Collaborate in an agile team environment to efficiently conduct testing.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Major(s): Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Materials Engineering
  • Minimum year in school: Junior
  • GPA: 3.0
  • Completion of the following courses is required for this position: Statics and Mechanics of Materials
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and experience

Under the direction of the Plant Engineer, the Assistant Plant Engineer is responsible for managing the activities of the maintenance department of a plant to keep building and equipment in proper state of repair, in order to reduce mechanical downtime and keep product flow and production lines running at maximum efficiency. Responsible for the development and implementation of maintenance systems associated with High Performing Manufacturing Organizations (Preventative/ Predictive Maintenance, TPM, etc.).

Core Responsibilities

Maintenance Systems

  • Lead the Maintenance Department effort in the development and implementation of maintenance systems associated with High Performing Manufacturing Organizations (Preventive/Predictive Maintenance, TPM, etc.).
  • Ensure proper scheduling of resources to maximize amount of work completed while minimizing plant downtime. Additionally, these systems will provide maximum plant capacity, while minimizing cost. The result is reduced unscheduled downtime, creating higher plant efficiency.

Maintenance Staff and Safety

  • Manage the maintenance staff through delegation, policy and procedure administration, assignment of work responsibilities, planning, organizing, directing and follow-up of the work assignment.
  • Champion plant safety efforts within the department through administration and enforcement of company and plant policies/procedures. Facilitate employee training.

Solutions

  • Participate in and drive long-term solution development. Under the direction of the Plant Engineer, deliver day-to-day support to all operating teams having issues with troubleshooting, problem analysis, equipment failures, etc.
  • Ensure the smooth daily operation of the plant with minimal repetitive issues in a positive work environment.

Project Development

Capital project development and post-approval management.

Assist Plant Enigneer in management and scheduling of project elements to ensure minimal interruption to plant operations.

Delivers finished projects as designed, on time and on budget with no safety, food safety or environmental issues.

Key Performance Indicators

Develops and/or maintains Key Performance Indicators with the Plant Engineer for tracking and reporting the performance of the maintenance function (supplier performance, equipment reliability, overall equipment effectiveness, etc.).

Reporting to the Marketing Communications Manager, the Senior Content Writer is responsible for developing original content across multiple channels, overseeing editorial planning, managing social media accounts, and proactively seeking out new content ideas. We are seeking a highly skilled writer with an appetite for complex, oftentimes scientific, topics delivered via diverse formats.

The role’s primary activities are to generate content for both external and internal DCRI channels, in particular our website, intranet, and quarterly newsletter. The content will often be articles but will also include website copy, Q&As, case studies, newsletter copy, leadership announcements, and event announcements. In addition, this role will generate content for and serve as the owner of DCRI’s social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn). Less frequent activities will include writing press releases and editorials; developing strategies, key messages, and copy for campaigns; supporting DCRI’s presence at key industry conferences with updated collateral; working with DCRI’s digital services team to produce videos and podcasts; and building relationships within the organization and Duke. There is also the opportunity to work on marketing collateral, such as developing pitch decks, in partnership with DCRI’s business development team.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the chief content developer for regular news content as well as campaign-related content. Develop high-quality content strategies to optimally position the DCRI; research and suggest content ideas; and provide skilled content delivery in multiple formats and channels.

  • Create original content including (but not limited to) news articles, feature stories, marketing copy, video or podcast scripts, and social media content to address audiences across DCRI-owned channels, whether external or internal.
  • Oversee DCRI’s social media accounts (Twitter and LinkedIn), feeding the channels with high-quality content and interacting strategically with partner/collaborator accounts. Collaborate with Corporate Communications members on social media graphics. Advise internal groups on social media content/profiles as requested.
  • Serve as managing editor for DCRI news on external and internal channels, overseeing syndication activities across multiple channels to support outreach and dissemination activities. Suggest content ideas, target channels and audiences, and appropriate project timelines.
  • Act as chief writer for DCRI’s annual report, which is produced each fall.
  • Contribute content to DCRI’s external-facing website; participate in the website’s migration from WordPress to Drupal in the spring of 2022.
  • Develop a broad knowledge of research conducted at the DCRI as well as faculty expertise and key offerings.
  • Proactively seek out and identify ideas and topics that promote the value of DCRI’s work, research excellence, and DCRI’s core values.
  • Assist with development of sensitive internal announcements/re-orgs as well as messaging for the intranet.
  • Understand and apply best practices in communication measurement.

Coordinate the involvement of DCRI personnel, including faculty, management, and creative services, to meet Corporate Communications performance objectives and stakeholders’ expectations.

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to develop strategies for attracting, engaging, and growing visitors to the enterprise website and social media platforms.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with DCRI faculty and staff, and consult with them on publicizing and promoting their activities and research.
  • Interview faculty and staff; share information with other communicators in the School of Medicine and across campus.
  • Work with members of DCRI’s digital strategy team to develop and manage multimedia features (e.g., videos, video snippets, audio clips, images) for DCRI’s channels; work with DCRI’s graphics team on infographics for the same purposes.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Three or more years of hands-on web editorial experience, such as news articles, features, press releases, profiles, social media content, webpage copy, and video/audio scripts (please note: during the interview process, the Corporate Communications team will request a portfolio of written work)
  • Familiarity with managing social media channels, especially Twitter and LinkedIn; experience with Social Studio or another social media management tool is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Experience with content management systems, especially Drupal, although WordPress is an acceptable substitute
  • Understanding of digital content strategy, content marketing, and/or digital measurement metrics; experience with Google Analytics is a plus
  • Familiarity with web usability techniques and/or search engine optimization (SEO) techniques
  • Experience with marketing copy, sales enablement collateral, and/or executive communications is a plus
  • Familiarity with graphic design packages and/or video editing software (e.g., Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus
  • Creative, strategic, and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to efficiently work under multiple deadlines and provide reliable work estimates
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency
  • Collaborative spirit with an ability to strategize, create, and edit materials in a diplomatic manner with colleagues of all levels

  • Ability to handle confidential information with good judgment

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, social sciences, or related discipline. At least five years of content development, content strategy, corporate communications, strategic marketing, and/or social media experience in a B2B or higher education environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Experience in a clinical research environment is a plus.

This role is set to work 20 hours per week. The chief responsibility of the Property Coordinator is to provide administrative support to the property management and maintenance teams. Often a first point of contact, the Property Coordinator also provides customer service to customers, tenants, vendors, contractors, and community partners.

Key Position Accountabilities:

Administrative Support

  • Provide general office duties including mail distribution, screening and routing of telephone calls, responding to general inbox email inquiries and receiving guests, communicating with management and security, as needed.
  • Ensure office space and equipment is properly maintained including office supply inventory.
  • Develop office procedures/processes and establish and maintain all necessary records, files and reports as required for day-to-day property management, including, but not limited to, calendars, meeting agendas, and tenant, vendor and contractor files.

  • Respond to requests for information from Corporate, tenants and management in a timely fashion; must be adept at prioritizing these tasks.
  • Must be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends, depending on scheduled events.

Requirements

  • College degree (or equivalent experience) with 3-5 years business experience.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Can-do attitude, initiative, humility, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and an adaptability to change.
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal skills; bilingual language skills a plus; English speaking skills a must.
