As a Control Systems Engineer , you will have the opportunity to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world by developing the most productive, energy efficient, and durable Medium Wheel Loaders through L5 ( multiple integrated systems, such as engine, powertrain and cooling) integration controls strategies and algorithms. You will develop these controls for our traditional diesel engine machines with powershift and CVT transmissions, along with joining the team while we are in the early stages of our development of battery electric machines.

The Medium Wheel Loader (MWL) engineering team, part of Caterpillar’s Earthmoving Division, is seeking a Control Systems Engineer who will be accountable for the development, validation, and maintenance of the L5 integration control strategies for the MWL product line. As a MWL Control Systems Engineer, you will successfully assist cross functional teams to define and develop control system algorithms for power systems that drive customer value. The algorithms will integrate power system components to optimize system and machine efficiencies. Included in these responsibilities are working with process partners to transform functional requirements into software features, implementing these features and verifying/validating the controls and software on machine. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology. The ability to understand complex systems and interactions is important for this position, which will support control software development for the next generation of control features.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Accountable for the definition, execution, and delivery of L5 controls system algorithms that meet performance requirements for New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), and product life-cycle support.

Work closely with validation engineers to validate L5 machine performance and resolve any deficiencies to program requirements.

Leverage virtual product development for control system functional testing, optimization, and performance verification

Develop and validate control features through simulation and machine development

Stay up-to-date with the competitive landscape through the support of competitive productivity testing and the development of solutions to maintain market leadership

Perform needed analysis and initiate ideas

Evaluate new products, processes, or systems

Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units

Perform product maintenance

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Agricultural Engineering with focus on control systems or mechatronics

2+ years relevant work experience including control software development or validation experience

Top Candidates will also have experience in several of these areas:

Medium Wheels Loaders or other Construction Equipment.

Software or Systems Development

Model-based controls development

CAN development tools

Virtual product development

Machine or Powertrain controls

Analyzing data from machines
