RFA Engineering ( ) is seeking an Entry Level to Experienced Engineer to develop control systems for agricultural and construction equipment. The involved systems are a challenging combination of automotive technology, mobile fluid power controls, and industrial automation. This is a full time position at our client’s location in Dubuque, IA and includes our exceptional benefits package.

Control Systems Engineer: You will develop model-based control systems for construction equipment. You will collaborate with product design teams to identify system requirements, develop, and simulate control system models, and execute control systems tuning on physical machines.

Responsibilities

  • Implement robust physics-based control systems models to achieve product design objectives for electronically controlled hydraulic mechanisms, powertrain, power management etc.
  • Design and test different control models using MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape
  • Troubleshoot control problems impacting machine performance and refine control parameters to improve machine performance
  • Support or perform on-machine control system troubleshooting and tuning
  • Support development of quantified performance requirements
  • Work cross-functionally with Dynamic System Modeling, embedded systems software and hardware and product verification & validation to integrate control system and vehicle system models
  • Determining what the appropriate control philosophy will be for a given vehicle feature, identifying appropriate control parameters and analysis
  • Document control theory and field commissioning/tuning processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent related work experience
  • Applicants of all experience levels will be considered
  • Model-based experience with control systems design and application of control theory
  • Experience with mechanical systems, physics, mathematics, and dynamic systems analysis
  • Willingness to work in a “hands-on” environment
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills
  • Must have a valid Drivers License

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience using MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape tools for model-based system design and/or control systems development
  • High-level understanding in embedded-controls, hydraulic systems, powertrain, and/or structural linkages
  • Some experience with software, C, C++ or other development environments
  • Exposure to vehicle CAN, or other similar communication protocols
