This role requires a businessperson and a technical expert. This role is responsible for continuous development our existing Controls software solution to both support new features and with existing code enhancements.
The developer must be able to relate to the person who’s investing in a solution while being aware of the technical complications of each situation. Therefore, the developer focuses on the project development work-stream and is responsible for translating engineering functional requirements into technical solution architecture and produce suitable software and documentation for the solution.
In addition to the technical aspects of the position, the developer is responsible for providing training to the project solution team (Controls Engineers) around implementing any new software being utilized for the first time.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Developing and updating PLC software libraries as required for both new features and software optimization
- Working with solution design team to support upcoming system requirements (new features)
- Responsible for developing software to support these requirements
- Identifies functional design issues as well as identifying requirements that will have an impact on controls development or functionality
- During project execution the developer is responsible for supporting the Controls Lead in identifying and resolving any system issues when deploying newly written software
- Producing algorithms from given functional specifications to implement in the software solution PLC code
- Developing solutions in PLC code while also considering system aspects such as safety, efficiency and diagnostics
- Ensure interoperability with other code modules within the system
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years direct experience in project engineering and/or systems integration of complex multidisciplined engineering solutions
- 5+ years experience programming advanced systems using IEC61131-3 languages (PLC Control code)
- Ideally using Codesys or TwinCat
- Advanced knowledge of Structured Text programming
- Hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools
- Strong knowledge of hardware and system quality assurance best practices and methodologies
- Strong knowledge of engineering implementation best practices and methodologies
- Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Microsoft Windows and linux
- Strong customer-service orientation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
- Ability to conduct research into application development issues and products
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally when required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Codesys Platform / TwinCat
- Knowledge of C++ programming
- 5+ years in the warehouse application development
- Experience in Material Handling systems
- Experience in conveyor control systems
- Experience with communication protocols including Tcp/Ip and MQTT
- Knowledge of database structure languages, such as SQL
- Experience with Visual Studio development environment
- Experience designing machine visualizations
- Experience with Object Oriented Programming methods
- Knowledge of Machine Vision systems and scanners
