Job Description

We are looking for a motivated innovative engineer to help drive new technology advancement at Caterpillar. Caterpillar’s focus on industry leadership in electrification, autonomy, and automation creates continuing new career opportunities within our team. Specifically, we have an opening for a Design Engineer in our Product Development Excellence organization to lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) with our product development teams.

Job Duties

  • Execute and deliver key elements of APQP: including, but not limited to, Requirements Management, Boundary Diagrams, Interface Analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan.
  • Deliver a comprehensive list of recommended design and process actions, special process controls, and validation activities to mitigate high risk areas.
  • Contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes.
  • Perform complex analysis work to identify design/process risk and develop mitigation plans.
  • Work directly with different organizations within Caterpillar, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Decisions will significantly impact new technology advancement, negotiations with suppliers, warranty, costs, sales, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Success factors include demonstrating excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Engineers must manage their professional development by continuously learning through experiences and staying abreast of new technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum (Mechanical, Agricultural, Electrical, or Aeronautical Engineering) plus at least 3 years of engineering or product development experience
  • OR a Master’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum (Mechanical, Agricultural, Electrical, or Aeronautical Engineering) plus at least 2 years of engineering or product development experience.

Top Candidates should also have

  • Self-starter with good communications skills
  • Design engineering experience
  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Product quality and/or APQP experience
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other departments, suppliers, and customers.

The location for this position is Mossville, IL; Tucson, AZ; Aurora, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 10% travel.
