Digital Communications Developer

Job Summary

Serves as a programmer for Strategic Communications-owned websites and applicable interfaces with social media, CRM systems, payment forms, and other technologies and vendors. Collaborates with colleagues within UR&D and Division of Information Technology. Ensures compliance with university and CSU web standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Website development – Build responsive websites using web markup, front end technologies, and any related dynamic publishing technologies and assets.
  • Custom-coded content – Create, develop, test, and implement custom-coded online content in collaboration with designers and writers within the department and the division.
  • Emergency communications – During emergency events, fulfill appropriate communications-related operations in concert with other staff positions in the department, including necessary on-site responsibilities.
  • Administrative tasks – Attend and participate in appropriate department, university, and CSU meetings.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Proficient in the use of content management systems (Drupal, WordPress). Proficient knowledge of web markup and front-end programming languages: Vanilla JavaScript and JavaScript Frameworks/libraries (jQuery, AngularJS, ReactJS, VueJS, NodeJS), HTML5, CSS3, JSON, ARIA, GIT, Preprocessors (Grunt/Gulp/Webpack, LESS, SASS), CSU web-accessibility standards and best practices. Front end best practices and experience and with git flow process. WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 familiarity. Superior written and verbal communication skills. SEO and Web analytic tools. Adobe Creative Cloud suite; digital-publishing tools.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a “vision of excellence.”

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, or related technical field and two years of related experience required.

Experience with developing responsive web applications and understanding of key design principles. Experience with email marketing software/tools, preferably LISTSERV Maestro and Constant Contact.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work – Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Analyst/Programmer – Career


Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $4,678 – $6,889 per month commensurate with candidate’s education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678 – $11,547 per month.


Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Hybrid/Telecommuting Option.

Duration of Appointment
