Climate Robotics is a venture-backed startup based in Houston, TX. We are building the next generation of agricultural machinery to produce biochar, a powerful soil amendment that improves soil health and sequesters atmospheric carbon.

The Embedded Controls Engineer is responsible for developing software applications for trailer-mounted biomass processing equipment that integrate with tractor operation, vehicle navigation, guidance, and automation. They will work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop integrated control systems and incorporate actuation and automation into mechanical design. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, can easily adapt to a rapidly evolving scope of work, and is passionate about working in climate tech.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop software applications that integrate with tractor operations using ROS, C++, LabVIEW, ISOBUS (ISO 11783), Universal Terminal and Task Controller and tools such as VECTOR CANalyzer to communicate with industry-standard CAN protocols
  • Develop systems from a clean slate – coordinating with multiple teams on system requirements
  • Collaborate with wider engineering team on control methodologies, operational logic, data collection, electrical motion control, hydraulic motion control, and feedback loops
  • Apply broad knowledge in sensors, actuators, control algorithms, software, and analysis tools to drive automation and control software improvements
  • Incorporate actuation and automation into mechanical design
  • Identify and install hardware to interface with electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical control systems
  • Employ data analytics to improve embedded control systems and automation
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts, and documentation to identify requirements and solutions
  • Write well-designed, testable code
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Document and maintain software functionality
  • Assist in control panel assembly and system wiring
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to design and build functional prototypes of mechatronic systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent, with 3+ years of practical experience
  • Master’s in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent with 1+ year of practical experience
  • Hands-on experience debugging software and hardware in complex systems
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with ROS and C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Authorized to work in the USA for any employer

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with component-specific selection for robust environments, e.g. CPUs, microprocessors, relays, capacitors, resistors
  • Experience with LabView, MATLAB, and Eagle

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical & Dental)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • 401(k)
