The Electric Powertrain Controls team has an opening for a Powertrain Controls Engineer with responsibility for leading powertrain controls development and validation of Electric Powertrain products. In this role, you will calibrate, test, and validate common, leveraged control features to support various electrified powertrain system architectures. The selected candidate will collaborate with a global team to solve technical problems and deliver on project goals, continually learn to stay abreast of innovative technology, and mentor team members. This role directly impacts Caterpillar current and future electrified powertrain products.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining powertrain controls development and validation plans based on machine level performance requirements
  • Coordinating powertrain control feature development to align with machine project timeline
  • Calibrating, testing, and validating powertrain control features through on-machine development
  • Investigating issues for root cause and validating issue resolution.
  • Analyzing data and documenting powertrain control feature functionality and performance
  • Collaborating with process partners to deliver high quality product

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or Agricultural Engineering with 8 years engineering work experience
  • 5+ years of experience developing electromechanical, transmission, hybrid, or powertrain controls
  • Experience in model-based controls development using Matlab Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Experience with virtual product development
  • Experience with CAN development tools: Vector CANape, CANalyzer or ATI Vision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical leadership skills and communication

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience with classical control and modern control theory
  • Experience modelling physical systems
  • 3+ years of lab or machine development experience
  • Experience with control software development tools and processes
  • Experience with NTI (New Technology Introduction) / NPI (New Product Introduction) projects
