Description:

Looking for a SW Engineer to work on the Ground Systems Engineering team to develop some code and implement/ test the existing code base for a satellite ground system that is responsible for processing video/ sensors data from cameras and sensors on an in orbit satellite. The systems involves data/ video processing elements and is done mostly in C on a Linux RedHat system. Some C++ as well. This engineer will work as a SW Developer in Test and will work across both development and test functions to deliver the software for this ground system to properly process this data. Experience with Systems Engineering elements like working with SW requirements and systems integration/ ICD (Interface Control Documents) is also critical.

Support definition of overall system architecture/design

Implement control of SW Process in accordance with the software development Plan

Support development of specifications for development facility, review ITI implementation

Support implementation of satellite Ground System software, including external interfaces and develop interface control documents, as required

Support requirements verification

Work with Test Lead to develop and execute system integration test plans and activities to verify requirements

Support preparation of technical communications for reviews (e.g., NASA critical design review) and regular status reporting

Top Skills:

1) Experience with Software development in C/ C++, primarily code is done in C.

2) Experience with scripting, ideally Python

3) Experience with SW Testing/ Test Engineering. A “SW Developer in Test”. They are on a development team but they would like someone’s experience to be heavily involved and leaning towards SW Test and Integration efforts.

4) Experience with a Linux operating system, ideally RedHat.

5) MUST have experience with writing SW to control/ interface with a HW system. Not just a website or applications level SW development effort.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelors and 9 years, Masters and 7 or PhD and 4 yrs. Degree could be in Computer Science or any related technical discipline.

Required Skills:

Knowledge of software lifecycle (continuous integration (CI) services, software configuration management (git), and bug/issue tracking systems preferred)

Software development experience, preferably in aerospace but other industries might be applicable.

Systems engineering experience

Knowledge of system engineering tools and processes

Knowledge of software engineering principles, tools, and processes

Knowledge of relevant technical standards such as CCSDS, TCP/IP, and JPEG

Ground system experience

Desired Experience: (Nice to Have)

Requirements development and analysis

System integration

Documentation to high reliability standards

System design skills combining new development with legacy infrastructure

Understanding how different components interface with each other in requirements and design space

Telemetry & Command

Data processing and distribution, including imagery and video

Mission Planning/Scheduling

Data Analysis

IT Infrastructure and Security

Requirements formulation, analysis, design, development, integration, testing, and post-launch support

Software CM and unit test automation

Experience with space system mission operations or LEO spacecraft a plus

Aerospace/NASA ground system experience is a plus
