Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer

This Engineer with core competency in rotating equipment requires diverse experience in engineering, condition monitoring, maintenance and managing projects to enhance equipment safety and reliability. Our plant requires this Engineer to possess experience with large pumps, steam turbines and compressors. Knowledge of vibration analysis for rotating equipment and predictive maintenance and the ability to guide teams through failure analysis is required. This role will provide direct technical support to the Maintenance department for long-term reliability improvement and the selection of rotating equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Consistently makes sound decisions based on engineering knowledge and experience.

Serve as a member of cross-functional team to resolve equipment problems, investigate incidents, and improve reliability.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to deliver engineering information at a high quality to all levels of the organization.

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.

Works with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. The Engineer is responsible for adhering to the Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.

Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities and provide technical support for major capital rotating equipment projects.

Conduct performance analysis of rotating equipment to identify performance & operating deviations to provide a resolution on developing deficiencies.

Lead continuous improvement of reliability of rotating equipment through the development and application of effective reliability strategies such as: risk-based maintenance strategies, identification & assessment of risks, root cause and bad actor analysis and spare parts reviews.

Partner with vendors to resolve technical problems and develop new solutions.

Develop the rotating equipment engineering repair scope for all outages, as well as major and turnaround maintenance events.

Identifies and assesses new technologies related to rotating equipment and auxiliary systems.

Works towards continuous improvement of the reliability of rotating equipment through the development and application of effective reliability strategies, the identification of risks, root cause analysis and team-based problem solving using and implementing industry best practices and standards. Partner with vendors to resolve equipment technical problems.

Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.

Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.

Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.

Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.

Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

Provides input to a Risk Management Plan that will anticipate reliability-related, and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.

Identifies premature and repetitive failures in plant equipment and develops solution to resolve same. To fulfill this responsibility the Reliability Engineer applies: Data analysis techniques that can include, Statistical Process Control, Reliability modeling and prediction, Fault Tree Analysis, Weibull Tree Analysis, Six Sigma (6σ) Methodology, Root-cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA), Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)

Develop and maintain reliability improvement/tracking programs for critical assets

Assist in root cause failure analysis on critical equipment failures.

Perform component failure analysis as required.

Review project design packages for proper design regarding reliability, application, and maintenance.

Development and monitor of the preventative maintenance program.

Develop, review, and maintain equipment specifications as related to purchasing, installation, operation, and maintenance/repairs.

Develop and implement alterations and revisions to equipment to improve business performance of the operating units.

Provide various reports as needed.

Always present a professional image to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.

Must be self-motivated and possess skills to identify and solve unusual problems.

Must be capable to make decisions and recommendations with minimal supervision.

Must be willing to spend time in the field as required.

Ability to use computers and computer systems utilizing standard software (ie; Microsoft Suite, AutoCad)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING

Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

Minimum 7 years’ experience working in the chemical or petrochemical industry required.

Experience must be as plant owners’ employee in a continuous process industry, preferably chemicals or oil refining.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Work is performed within an office environment, including office equipment – such as computers, telephones and copiers.

Work is performed in the “field”, requiring proper safety equipment.

Requires passing by industrial equipment on way to office.

Noise levels are typically moderate.

TRAVEL

Less than 10% of the time.
