Overview

We, the Economic Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, are looking for you, an excellent Senior PHP Web Software Engineer.

Providing access to data, educating the public, and partnering with data providers is an essential part of the mission of the Economic Research Division and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

A little about you: As a Senior PHP Web Software Engineer, you will you will report to our Software Engineering Manager and work in an agile team responsible for modernizing, developing, and maintaining our Research websites (e.g. FRED, ALFRED, Research homepage, FRASER, Federal Reserve History, Fed in Print).

Responsibilities

  • Perform as lead developer by writing secure, production quality code using PHP, JavaScript, SQL and No SQL databases, Linux, Docker, and Apache in an open source, cloud native development environment.
  • Write automated tests such as unit, acceptance, and integration tests to ensure high quality code.
  • Advise management on technical direction and strategy based on expert level knowledge of web technologies and strong understanding of business vision and strategy.
  • Work with Architects to determine the best available technology and to design and implement AWS cloud native solutions according to industry best practices. Assist the development team in understanding the trade-offs in recommended solutions and guide the implementation following technical vision.
  • Lead resolution of technical issues by using troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Mentor fellow team members on technology and standards. Perform code review on peer’s code and advocate for best practices.
  • Deploy code to production servers using a CI/CD pipeline, Gitlab and AWS ECR.
  • Actively participate in an agile team ceremonies (sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint planning, daily stand-ups) and planning events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or commensurate experience
  • 10 years’ experience with open-source web application development with a combination of the following:

+ Expert level knowledge of developing full stack, open-source applications using technologies such as Linux, Apache, PHP, SQL and No SQL databases, JavaScript, Node.js, REACT, ES6, and Docker.

+ Experience using Git or other source control for code management.

+ Knowledge of OWASP and other web security best practices.

+ Experience writing automated tests.

+ Experience with Amazon AWS cloud solutions.

+ Experience containerizing applications in production environments.

+ Object orientated design skills.

+ Knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms

+ Strong customer service skills, written/verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

+ Demonstrated ability to work independently with a team, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

+ Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability of aligning the technical vision to the business strategy, to implement solutions that meet the business and customer needs while balancing tradeoffs.

+ Technical certifications in area of expertise such as: AWS Associate or higher, Yellow Belt Software Security, etc.

Salary: $141,000 – $155,000
