Summary, Primary Duties, Skills and Experience

Job Summary:

The Senior Software Engineer – Hardware Acceleration will lead the effort to research and develop a hardware acceleration platform for the analysis of Optical Genome Mapping data.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform research to leverage existing and emerging hardware-accelerated technologies for the analysis of Optical Genome Mapping data.
  • Work with a cross disciplinary team to architect and implement mapping solutions to meet requirements for yield, throughput, and accuracy.
  • Lead the implementation of the platform for the hardware accelerated pipeline.
  • Work closely with the bioinformatics scientists to profile existing pipelines and identify / prioritize the development of accelerated workflows.
  • Work with bioinformatics scientists to research and create novel hardware-accelerated algorithms to enable migration of existing pipelines for top performance.
  • Research and develop efficient data management schemes for pipeline workflow.
  • Collaborate closely with bioinformatics and software engineering teams.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience developing algorithms for high-performance computing using FPGA, GPU, or similar hardware.
  • Experience with optimizing bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Languages: C#, C/C++, SQL.
  • Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Strong understanding of genomic applications.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Exposure or experience with embedded, real-time instrumentation.
  • Exposure or experience in hardware description languages (HDL), e.g. Verilog and/or VHDL.
  • Exposure or experience in accelerated parallel computing solutions, e.g. nVidia HPC SDK or CUDA.
  • Experience developing for large data, high performant databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute on all phases of the SDLC (Software Development Live Cycle).
  • Function in an Agile development environment, maintain effective documentation, define user stories / tasks and work with management to prioritize development efforts.
  • Proficient in source control management systems (Azure DevOps, GIT, SVN, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop well documented, unit tested code with accompanying regression tests.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD Degree in computer science, engineering, or other relevant discipline
  • 5 years+ experience with development on a hardware acceleration platform.
