The role of the Sensor Application Engineer is to support account managers and develop sales opportunities (technical sales & support) by providing component and application expertise, troubleshooting capability, and commercial support. This includes but is not limited to the selection, qualification and application of Danfoss Sensing Solutions products for customer accounts serving the mobile hydraulics (agricultural and construction equipment), HVAC/R, industrial engines, heavy truck, marine, water, and wind power industries. This position is seen as a vital link in realizing the overall sales objectives for the region and ensuring that critical application knowledge obtained in the field is communicated back to the business to improve our existing products and to develop new product platforms.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support Danfoss account managers and selling partners within key market segments including direct ownership of opportunities in Salesforce.com for select customers.
  • Aid sales in the identification of customer opportunities by understanding customer needs and highlighting where Danfoss sensor products can be used.
  • Participate in/perform product training presentations including new product introductions.
  • Define customer technical requirements and propose sensor products that meet or exceed requirements. Assist in establishing value-based pricing analysis and solution selection.
  • Drive business activities required to successfully close customer opportunities such as providing product samples, proposal preparation, market intelligence, and pricing guidance.
  • Create engineering specifications and drawings when product modifications are required through Danfoss’ CSR process.
  • Develop technical sales aids including product selection tools and literature.
  • Regular visits to customer production lines (more frequent during product start-up/ramp-up phase) and assist in qualification testing at customer’s laboratory facilities.
  • Provide routine product and installation troubleshooting support.
  • Follow and track activities regarding customer product claims (non-quality related).
  • Participate in application, quality, and sales forums at the regional and global levels.
  • Coordinate activities as required with factory resources, quality coordinators, regional sales managers, key account managers, and manufacturers’ representatives.
  • Review customer qualification specifications to identify and address gaps by negotiating test requirements with the customer or filling gaps with added Danfoss test data or developing test procedures and data with Danfoss resources.
  • Travel up to 40%

The ideal candidate possesses these skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required specifically in ME, EE or similar degree.
  • Knowledge of sensors and sensor technology
  • 1-3 year of experience in mobile hydraulics (agricultural and construction equipment), industrial engines, heavy truck, marine, water, or wind power industries.
  • 1-3 years in technical support experience
  • Diagnostic and instinctive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with personnel at all levels of technical competency as well as interpersonal communication skills to work with personnel in sales, purchasing and quality.
  • PC skills, with competency including Office 365 and Salesforce
  • Ability to communicate effectively: listening, speaking, writing, and presenting.
