Job Description:
Job Summary – Sr Software Engineer II – Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning
The CSX Innovation Team is seeking an experienced AI/ML developer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and will be responsible for developing, testing, and deploying AI/ML models for the Rail and Transportation industries. You will define system scope, objectives, and requirements while functioning as a top-level technical expert in the proof-of-concept process. You will regularly and actively engage with business, internal technical and external technology vendor teams to define, design, and develop new business applications and will partner with management to identify and research application problems, search for solutions, and make recommendations on AI/ML solutions.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities
- Design and develop AI/ML models for various applications
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and develop solutions
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI/ML and apply them to improve the performance of the models
- Code, debug, test, and support programs, applications, services, mobile apps, utilities and tools as part of the application development process
- Provide technical leadership and direction to team members while monitoring the deliverables and performing project management tasks as needed
- Research, analyze, and define detailed specifications for systems with large scopes and high complexity
- Serve as technical subject matter expert for one or more areas
- Design and Document test cases, expected test results, test data requirements, and collaborate with testing teams and business partners to resolve testing problems
- Assist Architecture team in setting enterprise standards
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree/4-year Degree
- 5 or more years of AI/ML solutions development
- 5 or more years of experience in Transportation/Intermodal Operations, Information Systems, or Logistics
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 5 or more years of AI/ML solutions development
- 10 or more years of experience in Transportation/Intermodal Operations, Information Systems, or Logistics
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree/4-year Degree
- 10 or more years of AI/ML solutions development
- 10 or more years of experience in Transportation/Intermodal Operations, Information Systems, or Logistics
Knowledge and Skills
- Leads the technical design and development of projects
- Experience with Python and Java development
- Ability to use multiple tools and techniques to facilitate the design, development, and integration of business systems
- Knowledge of a wide range of technical systems or expertise in a more narrow range
- Ability to develop increasingly complex business systems
- Ability to contingency plan, analyze systems for efficiencies, and develop test case scenarios
- Knowledge of multiple business functional / technical areas
- Ability to communicate effectively (both written and orally) with all levels of audiences
- Microsoft Office skills
