Title: Staff Development Engineer – 100917

Onsite/Remote:Onsite Position

Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Development Engineer for the John Deere Harvester Works, Crop Care division, located in Moline, IL, you will be responsible for electrical system design to support new Crop Care application equipment programs and new technology as well as continuous improvement to vehicle architecture and control system updates. In addition, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and work direction to a team that is responsible for developing the electrical system specifications, component requirements and selection, and production design solution for specific planting and air seeding equipment machine forms.
  • Oversee the specification of sub system/component requirements for planter & air seeding feature/functions for current and future equipment projects and lead the development and validation plans for these subsystems.
  • Oversee the development of electric schematic, power & grounding distribution concepts, and connection systems for planter and air seeding equipment.
  • Lead the identification & evaluation of product/process improvement solutions to improve design efficiency & modularity, cost, quality, reliability and performance.

What Skills You Need

  • 7 or more years of experience of product engineering experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience with electrical system design and implementation.
  • 5 or more years of experience with controller and sensor technologies and implementation.
  • 3 or more years of experience with software and component integration for automation and control systems.
  • 2 or more years of experience providing technical guidance to other engineers.
  • 2 or more years’ of experience managing development projects, including planning and prioritization of development activities and providing work direction to other engineers.
  • Engineering discipline with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Ability to make decisions and communicate effectively within a global cross-functional organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in self-directed manner.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in vehicle (on road, off road) electrical system design and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in roles that required a working knowledge of electrical components such as batteries, starters, alternators, rocker switches, relays, solenoids, sensors, actuators, controllers, connectors, and electrical harnesses.
  • Experience with the following hardware/software tools: Capital Harness, PDM Link, Creo, and other engineering analysis packages.
  • Experience working in product test or design engineering on new system and controls development programs.
  • Experience working with supply management, suppliers, factory operations, marketing, or customer support.
  • Experience with embedded SW design, J1939 CAN, and troubleshooting prototype hardware electronics in partnership with SW developers.

Education Details

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Agricultural or Systems Engineering discipline or related discipline.
