Test Engineer II-III – Operator Station

Shift: This is an in-person, on-site position

Primary Function:

As a Test Engineer, this person will have responsibility for verifying and validating mechanical systems and components, participating in research, analysis and problem solving.

Essential Job Functions – Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans (DVP&R, validation, etc.) for operator station systems and components
  • Instrument and test components and systems, both on and off vehicle
  • Analyze and synthesize test data
  • Review and interpret regulatory requirements
  • Communicate both verbally and through written reports
  • Design/Develop required test apparatus and fixtures
  • Provide guidance to technicians and mechanics
  • Provide recommendations for design optimization via team design reviews and product tear downs
  • Remove and install components on vehicle
  • Troubleshoot field/service issues
  • Maintain, update, and troubleshoot trucks being driven on-site
  • Maintain accurate records for all system/component test input/outputs
  • Maintain a list of work priorities and appropriately schedule people/resources to ensure on-time completion
  • Evaluate industry trends and implement relevant technologies and protocols that improve validation robustness

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

  • BS/MS (ME preferred) with 3-8 year’s work experience in an engineering field
  • Knowledge/skill in vehicle/automotive technology
  • Exposure and interest in, industrial equipment (materials handling, automotive, agricultural or similar) is highly desirable
  • Knowledge/skill in drafting practices, CAD, engineering analysis, design layouts
  • Desire for ‘hands on’ work in a shop environment a must
  • Ability to operate forklift equipment required
  • Occasional and limited travel may be required (less than 10% total time)
  • Ability to work with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project)
  • Practical understanding of machining practices, manufacturing methods and tolerances
  • Experience applying risk assessment tools (DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams)
  • Experience with structures, welding, hydraulics and sensors
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings (components, weldments, hydraulic and electrical schematics)
  • Experience with SOMAT and EDAQ
  • Experience with PLC’s

Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers.
