Fayetteville, NC (pop. 210,000) – The City of Fayetteville is an award-winning city that is home to Fort Bragg, the Army’s headquarters for Airborne and Special Operations forces, and Pope Army Airfield. Located in Cumberland County, the City is more than 250 years old and steeped in history. The City’s 150 square miles include a historic downtown shopping area, numerous historic sites, seven museums, three colleges and universities, multiple entertainment venues, and award-winning golf courses. Fayetteville is conveniently located within two hours of Myrtle Beach and other east coast beaches, as well as within close proximity to camping, fishing and hiking.

The Water Resources Engineer position is part of the Public Services Department. The Engineer is responsible for performing complex professional civil and watershed modeling work including design and review of drainage studies, drainage master plans and associated projects, preparing cost estimates, contracting, drafting specifications, and collecting site data. The position will complete comprehensive watershed management plans; provide project engineering and task management; and envision and manage complex technical planning projects and programs. Additionally, the Engineer will conduct hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for watershed studies, and lead the development of design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for stormwater CIP projects.

The Water Resources Engineer will also compose, evaluate, and review plans, specifications, designs and related documents, technical reports and letters, proposals, reports, and studies related to watershed master plan studies. The Engineer is also charged with participating in the annual budget preparation for the Engineering Division including forecasting additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies while also monitoring expenditures and implementing adjustments as needed. Additionally, the Engineer will answer questions and provide information to the general public; provide relevant information to the designated City’s Public Information Officer (PIO); investigate and manage complaints to include the design, analysis, drawings, permits, reports, meetings, coordination and construction as required for watershed master plan studies.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experiences:

  • Ability to provide watershed modeling direction for the City’s long-range capital plan for watershed master planning through the Engineering Division and ability to manage and guide those projects from beginning to end.
  • An advanced knowledge of principles and practices of hydrology and hydraulics modeling of both, primary and secondary system.
  • Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in Biological & Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university with 4 to 7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in engineering working with water resources modeling software; project management experience or a Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred; significant experience with ArcGIS and/or the designation as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) is preferred.

The anticipated hiring salary range for the position is $71,409 – $91,047 DOQ with an excellent benefit package.
