Job Summary

The Web Developer will design, develop, and maintain web content for the Graduate School’s web site, including all sub sites, and work with the University’s central sources to use accepted templates and follow design and branding standards. Web maintenance will need to be performed with minimal downtime. This position will be the Graduate School’s subject matter expert in the Content Management System used, currently Cascade, and provide training when needed to staff who update content and use the system. This position will modify and maintain existing web applications and monitor the sites for the following: ADA compliance and will assist the Graduate School staff in fulfilling that compliance, to assure responsive design across platforms and browsers, for broken links and outdated content, and security vulnerabilities. The position will also consult with users to identify needs and develop innovative solutions; write, test, and debug code; and continuously evaluate industry trends for opportunities to utilize new technologies and methodologies and implement these into the solution stack as appropriate.

What We Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field
  • Two or more years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining web pages and complex user interfaces and maintaining continuity and appearance across entire web sites through templates and CSS
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related work experience
  • Advanced skills in web development tools, such as Content Management Systems
  • Ability to create web services, web components, websites, and web applications, using HTML, CSS, PHP, and dynamic technologies such as JavaScript, JQuery and other technologies
  • Understanding of MVC software architecture
  • Ability to interpret end-user needs and work well with others
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent projects and consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external partners
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible in assuming assignments and to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

What Is Helpful:

  • Experience with Cascade CMS, PHP, Bootstrap 3 or later, jQuery and other JavaScript libraries and fromworks
  • WCAG guidelines, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or other design software and Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with WordPress
  • Experience training users with technology and/or writing technical documentation
  • Experience with Java, Apache Velocity or other templating languages
  • Awareness of best practices for meeting web accessibility and usability standards, and to secure data and processes from unauthorized access
  • Ability to handle XML-structured data
