Onsite/Remote:Onsite Position

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.

Your Responsibilities

As an Embedded Software Engineer for John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) located in Waterloo, IA, you will have the chance to unleash your creativity and explore new ideas while working on groundbreaking projects that are transforming agriculture. Our team is committed to designing innovative solutions that enable farm equipment to navigate fields, plant and harvest crops autonomously, and create a visible impact in the industry. You will have the opportunity to work with experienced engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to every aspect of the product development lifecycle. We encourage our teams to take ownership of their work, prioritize their tasks, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. You will be involved in developing, validating, and fine-tuning the system to ensure the best results.

You will

  • Develop embedded software in C and MATLAB Simulink to deliver an optimized and validated customer facing automation solution.
  • Collaborate closely with experts developing precision Ag guidance solutions that direct a vehicle along a planned path and with experts developing drivetrain software.
  • Execute unit and integration testing of software in multiple environments (virtual, lab and on-vehicle)
  • Analyze issues and drive for resolution of issues found during lab and field testing.

What Skills You Need

  • Demonstrated technical problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing embedded applications using C or MATLAB Simulink.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Strong passion for embedded engineering, learning new technologies, experimentation.
  • Experience with control systems design and analysis on agricultural applications.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools such as Real-Time Workshop.
  • Experience in automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and software test automation.
  • Experience writing and reviewing software requirements.
  • Experience relating to the design/diagnostics of mechanical/electrical/hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and components with the ability to read schematics and data sheets.
  • Experience with continuous integration development and automated build tools.
  • Experience with embedded systems tools such as emulators, compilers, and simulators.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as Logic Analyzers and Oscilloscopes.

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (Required)
